1GB GeForce GT240 or GT440?

which one would be better for gaming (gta iv) on my computer at the moment?

Computer specs:

Intel Core 2 Quad @2.50 GHz

4GB RAM

x64

the graphics card in it at the moment is a nVidia Ge Force 7100/ n Force 630i :)

Just wondering which one would be better to replace with :)

thanks in advance :)|||hi callum

go with the GT440 .... as mentioned both of these are not designed for gaming however even entry level cards have got enough power these days to cope with most games at reduced detail

however with the retail price of the GT440 at around £65 you would be better off with the "XFX ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card"( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component… )

in terms of performance the HD5770 wipes the floor with both the gt240 and gt440... and its equivelent in performance to the GTX260....

however the HD5770 requires a 450w or better power supply (with 26A or more on the +12v rails ) .... so make sure your power supply is up to scratch...but if you do need to buy a more powerful psu then i recommend the "500W Coolermaster Elite Power ATX2.3 Power Supply "( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component… ) .... this has more than enough power to run the HD5770 and has the 6pin pci-express connectors required by the card

i know this isnt the card you wanted... however i dont like to see people short changed when buying a new graphics card... i mean why buy the inferior gt440 when you can buy a card twice as powerful for the same price

infact for around £80 you can buy the "MSI GTS 450 1GB 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card"( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component… ) ... this is much better than the gt440 and will run the latest games with ease...... and all these cards will work well with your intel quad core cpu and 4gb of ram.....

finally if the two cards i recommended are over your budget then i would recomemend the "Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5670 512MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card"( http://www.aria.co.uk/Products/Component… ) ... for just £55 this is a suprisingly fast card... with a 775mhz core clock and 512mb of gddr5 memory running at 4000mhz ddr effective this will run the latest games at medium detail without any problems.. and the arctic cooling gpu cooler keeps your gpu tempertures nice and cool, even when gaming

i hope this has helped callum.... any questions let me know

good luck mate !|||If you only want to play older games like GTA IV, then go for the GT440. But if you think you'll want to play newer titles don't waste your money on either, it'll be £65 down the drain. Save up some more cash and buy something in the £150 region.

GTA IV has some fairly low recommended requirements, but anything reasonably modern will refuse to run well, or even at all on that video card.

As for brianthesnail123's comment that these cards will run most games at reduced detail, 2 things:

1. Who wants to do that? You don't buy an upgrade to play things badly.

2. No they won't. An nvidia GTS450 won't run COD4 at minimum settings, so what chance do these cards have on anything much newer than GTA IV (2008). Nil is the answer.|||Gt 440 mucho gracias.

Low wattage PSU's and GPU's Guide ...

They both suck for gaming|||Any would be better then what you have now. I would go with the 440.
